IACMI Hosts Appalachian Regional Commission Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin
Economic development and workforce training were the main topics on July 20 as IACMI hosted Appalachian Regional Commission Federal Co-Chair Gayle Manchin in Knoxville. Manchin, along with Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Assistant Director of Rural Development Brooxie Carlon, got an up-close look at research and training facilities leveraged by IACMI to build job and career skills for workers in advanced composites and CNC machining, including the IACMI Collaboration Facility and the UT Manufacturing and Design Enterprise, or TN-MADE. IACMI CEO Chad Duty and Workforce VP Joannie Harmon teamed up to showcase IACMI scale-up programs including America's Cutting Edge. ARC focuses on strengthening economic growth in 13 states and 423 counties across the Appalachian Region.

ICYMI: New Prize to Help Accelerate U.S. Wind Turbine Materials Recycling
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Wind Energy Technologies Office recently launched its second American-Made Challenges prize, the Wind Turbine Materials Recycling Prize. With a prize pool of $5.1 million, the two-phase competition will help the United States develop a cost-effective, sustainable recycling industry for two types of materials used in wind turbines: fiber-reinforced composites (carbon fiber and fiberglass) and rare earth elements (including neodymium and dysprosium magnets used in generators). Among the prize goals is the aim to safeguard domestic wind energy manufacturing by improving resilience to price volatility and supply chain disruption. Submission deadline for the first phase of the prize is Sept. 29, 2023.
