White House Manufacturing Leadership Summit Features MUSA Institute Leaders
Advancing U.S. manufacturing was front and center at the White House on October 24 when all 16 Manufacturing USA Innovation Institutes, including IACMI Interim CEO and CCO Dale Brosius, joined Deputy and Under Secretaries from DOD, DOE, DOC, DOL, and USDA, along with representatives from six additional agencies, to discuss the critical role the Manufacturing USA network plays in advancing a modern American industrial strategy.
The White House convened the MUSA institutes to discuss leveraging the institutes' impactful public-private partnerships in advanced manufacturing and deliver on national priorities.
“I’m very appreciative for the opportunity to represent IACMI and our stakeholders to highlight the impact Manufacturing USA has made to date, is making now, and can make in light of the Administration’s industrial strategy for advanced manufacturing,” Dale said.

Carbon Fiber 2022 Focused on Exploration of Carbon Fiber Composites Manufacturing
Forward Engineering Managing Director Adam Halsband is pictured presenting composite battery enclosures for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) on Nov. 16 at the 25th annual Carbon Fiber Conference in Greenville, S.C. Halsband’s topic, Accelerating the Emergence of New and Innovation UAM Products, was among several conference themes that focused on exploration of carbon fiber composites manufacturing as market forces are putting unusual pressure on the carbon fiber supply chain. IACMI Interim CEO/CCO Dale Brosius joined several IACMI member companies, including Forward Engineering, at this week’s conference.
The Carbon Fiber conference is, as the name implies, highly focused on the exploration of carbon fiber composites manufacturing. This business/technical event includes an examination of the entire carbon fiber value chain, from supply of carbon fibers to processing of intermediates to fabrication of finished parts.

9T Labs, Purdue to Advance Composites Use in Structural Aerospace Applications
9T Labs is collaborating with Purdue University to research and test the potential of manufacturing structural aerospace composite applications at scale with 9T Labs’ Additive Fusion Technology (AFT). An IACMI member, 9T Labs specializes in digital, automated, and cost-competitive serial production of continuous fiber components. This partnership with Purdue is reported to be a first-of-its-kind collaboration for the Switzerland-based company that recently opened an office in Boston.

America’s Cutting Edge Celebrates 3000th Online Registrant
“I’m 34 years old, this is my first job in manufacturing, and I’m really excited about my future!” said Marcus Beamon of Denton, Texas. America’s Cutting Edge (ACE) is pleased to celebrate Marcus as the 3000th registrant for its free online machine training as a pathway toward a more fulfilling and prosperous career in manufacturing. “I was a painter for a long time, and you never knew when your next job would be. Manufacturing offers constant work, and I like that,” said Marcus.

Defying the Odds: Females in Machining and Composites
The drive to create. Put simply, that’s what has propelled Marley Passey into a career in manufacturing, despite the fact that she’s legally blind. “I've always really enjoyed making things, building little wooden toys,” Marley says. “And this is the natural progression of that, making these really big and complex metal or composite parts. I could be making something for an F-35. That's insane!” She’s defying the odds, and she’s not alone.
About five years ago, IACMI identified Davis Tech as a best-in-class program and partnered with them to establish a national network for Advanced Composites Career Pathways (ACCP). The goal was to develop a skilled advanced composites manufacturing workforce throughout the country, with a focus on creating accessible pathways to learning and employment opportunities for everyone. Marley's story shows the program is working.

CW Tech Days Webinar Addresses Emerging Composites Opportunities in Infrastructure, Construction
IACMI members CompositesWorld and Composites One are teaming up Dec. 1 for “CW Tech Days: Emerging Materials and Technologies for Infrastructure and Construction,” an interactive webinar where experts will review and evaluate the composite materials, processes and applications that should and will be considered for use in these markets.
With the infrastructure bill passed, the U.S. will see a decade of sustained investment and activity in infrastructure construction and rehabilitation. Composite materials are expected to play a significant role in this effort. Further, as the building and construction industry increasingly favors sustainable materials and designs, composites are expected to be specified for use in a variety of applications.
In eight 30-minute sessions, experts will offer presentations to review and evaluate the composite materials, processes and applications that should and will be considered for use in the infrastructure and construction markets. Topics include fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) rebar, bridge building, bridge repair, rail structures, marine structures and composites design for commercial construction. The webinar is from 11 a.m. ET to 3:00 p.m. ET.
