Count IACMI among the 4,000+ attendees and 350+ exhibitors at next month’s SAMPE 2024, the premier conference and exhibition for advanced materials and process engineering in North America.

Reminder: RFP Deadline April 19
ICYMI...IACMI is accepting proposals to fund precompetitive technical projects up to $50,000 that advance, utilize, or demonstrate emerging technologies that have the potential to attract higher levels of follow-on funding. Only proposals submitted by active IACMI member (s) or an IACMI Working Group are eligible.
The deadline to submit proposals for this project cycle is April 19, 2024.

MUSA Seeking Nominations for Modern Makers
How would you define a Modern Maker? Manufacturing USA describes Modern Makers as individuals whose sense of purpose embodies the Manufacturing USA mission to secure the future of U.S. manufacturing through innovation, education, and collaboration. Modern Makers seeks to inspire tomorrow’s manufacturing workforce by raising awareness of advanced manufacturing careers with students and workers. And celebrate emerging and distinguished leaders who exemplify the many faces of advanced manufacturing.
As one of 17 Manufacturing USA institutes, IACMI invites our members to nominate deserving Modern Makers before April 22. Nominees can include, but are not limited to, students, workers, early career professionals, and executives working in the advanced manufacturing industry.

Magnum Venus Products (MVP) – A global manufacturer of fluid movement and production solutions for industrial applications, formed a new partnership with Elkem to introduce a tailored silicone product for Flex Molding, a silicone vacuum infusion molding technology designed to enhance and accelerate production.
Carbon Rivers Inc. – Known for its expertise in EV batteries, composites recycling and automotive coatings, Carbon Rivers modified a Mazda RX-8 electric vehicle (EV) in last month’s 24 Hours of Lemons Endurance Race (yes, that’s not a typo, more info here: 24 Hours of Lemons - Wheel to Wheel Racing for $500 Cars). The vehicle was converted from a petrol-driven car into a fully electric-powered race car. Huge congrats to the team! The modified Mazda had the fastest lap for an EV at NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana and the team advanced its EV mobile, modular supercharger in the process.

NIST Launching Competition for
AI-Focused Manufacturing USA Institute
The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) plans to announce an open competition for a new Manufacturing USA institute focused on using artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the resilience of U.S. manufacturing. NIST anticipates that $70 million in federal funds will be invested in this new institute over five years, with an equal or greater contribution from private and other nonfederal funding sources.

Vehicle Technologies Office $45.8M Funding Opportunity
The Department of Energy (DOE) announced $45.8 million in new funding for projects that will advance research, development, demonstration, and deployment (RDD&D) critical to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. The funding will drive innovation in equitable clean transportation and is aligned with strategies detailed in the U.S. National Blueprint for Transportation Decarbonization. Applicants must submit a concept paper by May 2, 2024, and full applications are due June 24, 2024.
