Join Us At Upcoming Fall Events!
IACMI and its members are busy convening and connecting at several industry events this fall, including this week at the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Automotive Composites Conference & Expo (ACCE) in Novi, Michigan. In addition to networking, research, and education opportunities, IACMI leaders and members are on the road showcasing technology and innovative products, engaging in panels, serving as technical advisors and leading workforce roundtables – all to drive U.S. composites industry growth, accelerate supply chain maturation and meet the needs of U.S. manufacturing. Be sure to stop by IACMI booths and displays.
In addition to SPE ACCE, here are details for events in September.
IMTS and Smartforce Student Summit | Chicago | September 12-17 IACMI is collaborating with several Manufacturing USA institutes and will have exhibit space at the 2022 International Manufacturing Technology Show. Stop by booth 338786 in the South Building, Level 3. On Sept. 15, IACMI is leading a Machine Tool Industry Roundtable discussion on new advancements in machine tool technology and workforce development strategies. Members at IMTS are urged to register and participate at 2:00 pm CDT in Room 106B in the South Building. On Sept. 13 and 14, IACMI Workforce Director Joannie Harmon will be a featured panelist. On Sept. 15, Interim CEO and CCO Dale Brosius will be interviewed on the main stage.
AT IMTS, IACMI is teaming up with University of Tennessee, Knoxville to showcase America’s Cutting Edge (ACE), the IACMI-led industrial skills training program focusing on machine tooling and advanced machining. ACE booth 215422 will be in the Smartforce Student Summit, North Building, Level 1.
Global Energy Forum | Pittsburgh | September 21-23 As host of the 2022 Global Clean Energy Action Forum, DOE is bringing together energy leaders from around the world to foster greater international cooperation, drive innovation and accelerate deployment of clean energy solutions, according to U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm. IACMI will highlight technologies and projects in the areas of wind energy, vehicle mobility and infrastructure.

Mito Material Solutions Opens New Facility in Indianapolis
IACMI-member MITO Material Solutions celebrated a major milestone August 24 as it cut the ribbon on a new facility in Indianapolis. The 7,000 square-foot facility has in-house R&D and testing space, allowing the graphene additive developer to grow its capabilities. MITO serves sporting goods and other composites markets. MITO leaders Haley and Kevin Keith recognized the company’s growing team, key investors, customers, industry, business, and community partners. Pictured at right are: Dale Brosius (IACMI), Jonathan Goodsell (Purdue), Julie Heath (Indiana Economic Development Corp.) and Haley and Kevin Keith.
A neat side: during the event, IACMI Interim CEO Dale Brosius shared a LinkedIn message from 2015 sent to him by Haley, then an MBA student at Oklahoma State University, talking about a new technology she and the university were developing that would strengthen composites materials by 100 percent. Today, says Haley, MITO’s patented composites technology is the first and only to functionalize graphene to create hybrid additives with both chemical and physical bonding points. The hybrid materials give fiber-reinforced composites and thermoplastics remarkable strength, durability, flexibility, functionality, and sustainability. IACMI Expands ACE In-person
CNC Training Beyond Tennessee
We are pleased to announce major milestones for the IACMI-led machine tool workforce program, America’s Cutting Edge (ACE).
- Robert C. Byrd Institute (RCBI) at Marshall University in Huntington, WV became the first ACE machine tool training center outside of Tennessee to conduct in-person Computer Numerical Control (CNC) training. In August, 20 students from Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia completed weeklong instruction. IACMI launched the ACE training in December 2020 with support from the U.S. Defense Department, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), University of Tennessee (UT) and Pellissippi State Community College (PSCC). In addition to RCBI, IACMI is working with organizations in Florida, North Carolina and Texas to grow ACENet, an emerging national network of regional machine tools innovation and workforce development hubs. Read more here.
- This week, ACE online training registrants topped 2,800 and now includes people from all 50 states, with 69% being students and 31% from industry. During Summer 2022, IACMI partners UT and PSCC conducted nine ACE in-person training bootcamps. A total of 84 ACE participants, including 51 students and 33 train-the-trainers, completed the in-person training. Learn more here.
