DOE AMMTO Acting Director Steve McKnight
To Build Off IACMI Renewal at Members Meeting
“The future is now, let’s get to work.” That’s the message Steve McKnight, Acting Director of the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Technologies Office at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), delivered April 11 in Knoxville as DOE announced the renewing of its partnership with IACMI.
McKnight will be a keynote speaker on June 21 at the IACMI Summer Members Meeting. McKnight will focus on roles that composites can play in advancing DOE’s clean energy goals from an economic and national security perspective. Today's advanced composite materials can make wind turbines bigger and more responsive, make cars lighter and stronger, and make hydrogen tanks easier to transport.
“We’re in a race to decarbonize our economy,” says McKnight. “We firmly believe that synergy of industry and research is key to accelerating the latest innovations.”
The Summer 2023 Members Meeting includes a three-day agenda June 20-22 including five in-person IACMI Working Groups as well as presentations, panels, and networking.

IACMI Chief Technology Officer, Uday Vaidya, shares this reflection from JEC World held April 25-27 in Paris.
“As each year, it was an incredible show! For Composites Enthusiasts, JEC is akin to Heaven on Earth' The show truly exemplifies the kid-in-a-candy-store syndrome. Everywhere you look, there are leaps and bounds of advances in composites technologies.
We noticed major trends in Sustainability, Air mobility, Mass Transit, Autonomous / Battery EVs, Hydrogen Tanks to name a few. Multi-materials and intermediates continue to emerge in major ways. The widespread interest in 'Recycling and Circular Economy' was evident from the numerous new companies entering the carbon fiber recycling technologies space.”
